When Irving Archives and Museum (@irvingarchivesandmuseum) discovered that "Popol Vuh" wasn`t in their collection, it was a sign of what needed to be brought to light. ✨
This pictographic creation myth developed around 1000 CE by the highland Mayan people called the Quiché is the epic tale of twins who must save humanity. In 1524, the Spanish ordered it to be burned, and in 1721 it was translated to Spanish. Today it`s the earliest known surviving body of literature in the Americas.
Along came artist Jaime Arredondo (@jaimearredondo_art); a Texas native of Mexican American Tejano descent. He created 65 vivid illustrations to tell the story visually and collaborated with IAM to create the exhibit.

The exhibition is currently on display at El Museo Latino (@el_museo_latino) in Omaha, NE through January 7, 2025.
The Leaders of Color Fellowship is a transformative leadership development experience curated by Creative West in order to establish multicultural leadership in the creative and cultural sector.
